High School Senior Portrait Tips

First of all have fun! We are going to make you look great and you will have a great time. That’s why you selected Daddy's Girl Photography for your Senior Portraits.

Please arrive to your appointment early or on time.  Follow our suggested guidelines but be yourself in how you dress and the outfits that you bring to your session.  Depending on your session you will have 2-4 outfit changes.  You are welcome to bring as many outfits as you like and we can determine which will work for each location.

Clothing

Group your outfits on hangers and make sure they are clean and pressed.

Make sure you have atleast 2 outfits that comply with your school's senior portrait requirements.

Plan on changing quickly and sometimes in public places.

Make sure you are comfortable with your clothing.

If you’re self-conscious about your arms, avoid sleeveless or cap-sleeve shirts and tank tops, as they tend to make arms look fuller.

Avoid stripes, plaid, bright colors and bold patterns.

Solid colors photograph much better than busy patterns.

Bring a variety of colors and clothing and mix the styles. Some should be dressy, some dressy-casual, and some casual.

Bring shoes and accessories to go with your outfits.

Bring a set of walking shoes to walk comfortably to and from each shoot location during your session.

Hair and Makeup

Hair style is your responsibility.  Bring hairspray, brush, comb, pins and accessories as needed for your session.  Do not do any drastic hair changes the week before or day of your session.  Makeup is your responsibility.  If you wear makeup, do not over do it or do any drastic changes in your makeup on the day of your session.  Avoid makeup with SPF as it tends to create a shine.

Jewelry

Simple is best.  Big shiny jewelry can distract from you.  If you have different jewelry for each outfit be sure to put them in a plastic bag and hang it on the clothes hanger it belongs with.

Props

Props are great.  Bring items that show who you are.  Some popular choices are:

Sports Equipment (basketball, football, soccer ball, helmet, bat, uniform, etc.).

Musical Instruments.

Activity Related Items (Dance, art and school clubs).

College Related Items (hoodies, t-shirts and memorabilia).

Parents and Friends

Parents and friends are welcome and often can be a help.  You are welcome to have a couple of shots with a boyfriend, best friend, sibling, or parent at no extra charge.

Undergarments

Make sure the colors of your undergarment work with your outfits and don’t show through your clothing. If you need a strapless, please bring one to your session. Tucking or moving straps do not always work.  Check ahead of time to make sure your undergarments work with your outfits.
